Job Description

The Schools of King Edward in Birmingham are seeking to appoint a permanent full-time Teacher of Mathematics to teach across the full age range from September 2026. It is an opportunity to join a strong, enthusiastic, very supportive and friendly department in an exceptional school. The successful candidate will also have the skills and experience to teach Computer Science and/or Physics to GCSE level. They will primarily teach and be based at King Edward’s School, with some teaching at our High School for Girls, which is located on the same campus.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and no experience of working in the independent sector is required. A willingness to participate in the wider life of the school with pastoral care duties and help with co-curricular activities is essential. While this role is advertised as full-time, part-time applications may be considered for the right candidate.

The Mathematics Department

There is a rich tradition at King Edward’s School for celebrating the problem-solving skills of Mathematicians in many ways, be it within a classroom, thriving in wider challenges within the UKMT, or developing a steady flow of students who leave to study Mathematics or Mathematically centred courses at the world’s most exciting and prestigious institutions.

We are a department who love teaching Mathematics in a school of boys who love learning it, making for an exciting working atmosphere, where colleagues work collaboratively on developing the formidable skills of pupils whose enjoyment of being challenged frequently matches our own.

We have a Head of Faculty who line manages three Heads of Mathematics, who design and run programmes in the lower, middle and upper schools, meaning thorough and detailed resources are prepared with elements that branch across a boy’s programme of learning, through which we track, support and encourage when needed. The spine of teacher resources (with some common assessments) is provided, but we have a variety of teaching styles between colleagues and believe that boys benefit from experiencing this range: there is no expectation that specific lessons should be taught in specific ways. We seek to recruit dynamic and original teachers who carve their own path to becoming an excellent teacher at King Edward’s School.

We are proud of this department in an extraordinary school and seek an ambitious Mathematician to help us build upon what we have achieved thus far.
