The Governing Body of King Edward VI High School for Girls is delighted to announce the appointment of Kirsty von Malaisé as the new Principal from September 2020.
Mrs von Malaisé has been Head of Norwich High School for Girls since 2015, having previously been the sole Deputy Head at Putney High School for Girls. She is a graduate of Christ’s College, Cambridge where she studied English (MA Hons). A talented violinist, she won a prize at the BBC Young Musician of the Year and spent a year at the Guildhall College of Music and Drama. She has twice lived in Birmingham and is excited at the prospect of returning to the city.
The appointment follows the decision of Ann Clark, the current Principal, to retire at the end of the next academic year. The Governors are extremely grateful to Mrs Clark for her period of outstanding leadership of KEHS, during which the school has made great progress in academic performance, the range and quality of extra-curricular activities and the pastoral provision for the pupils.
Tim Clarke, Chair of Governors, commented: “We are delighted to have secured the appointment of Mrs von Malaisé. She has a proven record of leadership in an independent girls’ school. She is committed to academic excellence and accessibility, having herself benefitted as a pupil from a free place at the Purcell School of Music. Her highly successful “Inspiring Females” programme, which she established under the auspices of the Girls’ Day School Trust, also demonstrates her passionate belief in empowering young women and ensuring that they have access to the full range of opportunities in society.”
Kirsty von Malaisé said: “I am really looking forward to joining KEHS in September 2020. As someone who has spent two spells of my life in Birmingham, I have long admired KEHS from afar. It will be a privilege to build on the school’s impeccable educational and charitable aims and I look forward to getting to know the girls, their families, and the staff in the near future.”
