Wednesday 3rd May saw Balaam Wood Academy host a Boxing Workshop to inspire the pupils with real life stories and give them the opportunity to try boxing before connecting those who are interested with a local boxing gym.
Professional Boxers, Joshua Buatsi (Olympian and professional boxer), Lauren Price MBE (Olympian and professional boxer), Ben Whittaker (Olympian and professional boxer) and Ben Shalom (BOXXER CEO) were asked a series of questions by Sav Dan (music producer and podcast host) which unearthed their upbringing and how they turned struggles into motivations to succeed in the world of boxing.
Pupils found out what the Boxer's lives were like as teenagers and how they first got into boxing, as well as the positive impact this incredible sport has had on their lives. Respect, teamwork, dedication, and work ethic were just a few of the key topics covered. Sav Dan then closed the session by opening questions up to the floor. No questions were off limits in this insightful and inspirational session about how to overcome adversity to succeed in life.
After the pupils had been inspired by their talk, it was time to throw some punches! Anthony Crolla (former WBA Lightweight Champion) led an active session, supported by three fighters, where the pupils learned how to move and think like an elite boxer. Starting with a warmup, the pupils were put through their paces, before a steady warm down at the end.
Balaam Wood pupil Rosalie commented: “Seeing the boxers in school was good. It’s important to see & meet people who have been in similar circumstances to me; I found it inspiring. Being able to watch the boxing at Resorts World was probably one of the best nights of my life; seeing people with my passion living their dream was amazing”
