Celebrating Culture, Heritage and Identity Across the Foundation

This term, schools across the King Edward VI Foundation came together to celebrate Culture Days and Weeks: a vibrant series of events that placed a spotlight on the richness and diversity of our school communities.

From exploring global heritage and identity, to showcasing food, dance, and storytelling from around the world, students and staff alike embraced opportunities to learn from one another and celebrate what makes each culture unique.

At King Edward VI Five Ways School, pupils hosted a powerful Culture and Identity Day in the Foundation Room and Hall, with a clear focus on heritage, history and inclusion. Students worked tirelessly to bring the event to life, designing interactive stands that represented countries as varied as China, Iran, Ghana and the Philippines. Visitors experienced traditional Mendhi demonstrations, bracelet-making, the national dance of the Philippines, and even tried their hand at an ancient Ghanaian board game.

A variety of national dishes and drinks were available for staff and students to enjoy, and the day also served a charitable purpose, with non-uniform proceeds donated to the Marie Curie Hospice.

Meanwhile, other Foundation schools including KEHS, King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys, and King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys also marked their own Culture Days and Weeks, sharing powerful reflections on identity through performance, dress, food, and cultural storytelling.

These events highlight the Foundation’s commitment to Care and Collaboration, and to fostering inclusive, respectful environments where every member of the community is celebrated and valued.
