End of Year Message from the Chairs of the Foundation Board and Academy Trust Board

Colleagues

As the end of the academic year approaches, we wish to express our thanks for your work and commitment over the past 12 months.

Compared with the later part 2019-20 and the whole of 2020-21, this school year has had a semblance of normality, but that should not be over-estimated.  It was a year when you welcomed into your first-year children who had a highly disrupted final year in their primary schools and into your second-year pupils who had very limited experience of the routines of a secondary school.  Among your older pupils and students, a lack of familiarity with regular assessment and formal exams was a prominent feature with the prospect of 'normal' exams facing them this summer.

We note these facts as evidence of the considerable debt we owe our staff in schools and the Foundation Office for the extent of the normality that has been a feature of the year.  It is a commentary on the dedication which all staff, whether teachers or the range of associate staff that support our schools and pupils, bring to their responsibilities.  For that, we thank you and, whatever summer break you have, hope that it is relaxing and replenishing.

With all good wishes

Hywel Thomas - Chair, King Edward VI Foundation Board & Sharon Roberts - Chair, King Edward VI Academy Trust
