Head Girl at Turves Green Girls’ School discusses her ambitions

The new building at Turves Green Girls' School is now complete and this week has seen the return of students following the ease on lockdown restrictions. We have spoken to Zainab Mallah, a year 11 student and Head Girl at the school, to find out how she has coped with remote learning and how she feels about returning to the classroom. "Over the last four and a half years, I have learnt so many new things across all subjects here at Turves Green Girls' School, all of which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I especially look forward to PE and Science lessons, as I'm a huge sports enthusiast and appreciate the challenge that science provides me. My favourite part of Turves Green Girls' School is the learning environment; the amount of support and guidance I have received from members of staff throughout all my subjects has allowed me to have fun in my lessons whilst also excelling in my learning". When asked about remote learning, and how this has affected Zainab, she responded: "From the very start of the remote learning process I have received masses of support from my teachers, making it as easy and straightforward as possible, despite being outside of the classroom. The lessons have been delivered and easily accessed via teams and the assignments have all linked to what we have spoken about during the virtual session. I actually think remote learning has helped me to become a more independent and competent learner, preparing me for when I later go into sixth form". Although Zainab hasn't struggled with remote learning, and has even developed new skills because of it, we wanted to see how she felt being back in a school setting and into a brand new state-of-the-art building. "I'm very excited about being back in the classroom, especially in the new build amongst my teachers and peers. I am most excited about the new sports hall. I love sport and all the new equipment will give us the opportunity to explore and take part in more creative PE lessons. The new library and canteen will also be very beneficial to the students". As Zainab reaches the end of her Turves Green Girls' School experience, she is aiming to complete A-levels and then continue into a degree in medicine. "I would like to study medicine at the University of Birmingham, reaching my goal of pursuing a career as a Doctor". Turves Green Girls' School will officially become King Edward VI Northfield School for Girls in September 2021.
