Wednesday 1st September saw Turves Green Girls School officially join the King Edward VI Academy Trust, becoming King Edward VI Northfield School for Girls. To celebrate the conversion, an official opening ceremony was conducted on Wednesday 15th September with special guest, Olympian Emily Scarratt MBE, giving a keynote speech.
King Edward VI Northfield School for Girls joins as the Academy Trust’s fourth comprehensive school alongside six selective schools, aiding its mission to make Birmingham the best place to be educated in the UK.
The opening ceremony, held at the school’s impressive £22 million state-of-the-art building, included talks from Headteacher, Neil Jones, and Headmaster of the King Edward VI Foundation, Dr Katy Ricks. Olympian Emily Scarratt also spoke to the group via a recorded video, after unfortunately breaking her leg during a rugby match the previous week, leaving her unable to attend in person. Attendees were given the opportunity to have a tour around the new building, taking in all the modern classrooms and facilities.
Performances were conducted by students from the school, including a vocal performance, as well as a group of dancers.
Neil Jones comments “We are so excited to have officially joined the King Edward VI Academy Trust. This marks a new beginning for the school, along with the name change and new facilities, it’s such a great opportunity for our students”.
