We are saddened to learn of the sudden death of Lucy Phillips, a Trustee of our Academy Trust, and a Governor of King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy. We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Lucy’s family.
Lucy became a member of the Governing Body at Handsworth Wood in September 2015 and played a crucial role as the governor leading on Safeguarding, a responsibility which all governors recognise as one of the most critical duties of a governing body. Within the King Edward VI Academy Trust and the King Edward VI Foundation, we became quickly aware of her skills and experience, when she became a member of the Academy Trust Board in September 2018. More than skills and experience (including more than 20 years as a senior HR manager), she brought insight, perspective and humour to our deliberations, on the Academy Trust Board, its Human Resources committee and the recently formed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee. These qualities also made her an obvious choice for the panel created to lead the search and selection processes for our new Chief Executive Officer.
Her voluntary work extended beyond the King Edward VI Foundation, most notably as a Director of the Square Peg Foundation, a charitable organisation working with children and adults with additional needs. She will be greatly missed.
On behalf of the Foundation.
