Last month I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at the Foundation Ceremony at King Edward VI Five Ways School. The Foundation Ceremony is much more than a formal event; it is a rite of passage that marks the beginning of an important journey for our newest pupils.
Through music, spoken word, and the sharing of our history, the ceremony is intended to help each Year 7 pupil feel part of something much larger than themselves. As I spoke about the origins of the Foundation, how it grew from humble beginnings in Birmingham, and how it has developed over the centuries, I was able to talk to pupils about the principles that bind us together.
Introducing the pupils to the story of the Foundation is important. It connects them to a legacy stretching back to 1552, instilling pride and a sense of responsibility. The ceremony also celebrates the diversity and unity of our schools, showing that while each has its own unique character, we are all part of one organisation with a shared ambition: to provide the best possible education and to help every child discover their passions and talents.
The pupil performances at the ceremony I attended were outstanding and a real credit to them and their teachers as well as an inspiration to their peers. Thanks are due to all the organisers of these enjoyable and significant events.
Among other items in this edition of Foundation News is one regarding our focus on supporting those going through the menopause. It is an important issue that is being highlighted increasingly and we are committed to supporting our colleagues who experience it.
