King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy have achieved the prestigious World Class Schools Quality Mark (WCSQM) this year; one of just twelve secondary schools to achieve this accreditation in 2020/21, and the only school in Birmingham.
World Class Schools Quality Mark is a charity and national awarding body supporting schools to become 'World Class'. They assess the students, not the school, against of a framework of skills, competencies and characteristics that young people need to flourish in an emerging global economy. The WCSQM assessment process is entirely student led.
A dedicated team of seven King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy World Class Ambassadors were highly successful in all areas of the assessment process, demonstrating how they, and fellow students at the Academy are World Class by completing six review forms as part of a self-audit for each area of the WCSQM framework. They filmed and edited a video of ‘A Typical Week in the Life of Our World Class Academy’ showing student competencies over one school week. In addition, they took on leadership roles to complete a real-life assessment centre project, working virtually with two other schools. This year’s challenge was to design a relaxation zone that has a positive impact on the environment and the mental health of students at St Cutbert’s Catholic High School. The students produced a proposal including 3D modelling, a technology and budget analysis, and a video presentation pitching their design to St Cuthbert’s High Catholic High School.
