Representatives from King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls’ 2023 Beacon magazine attended the prestigious Shine School Media Awards in London on July 1st. Shine is a free national competition rewarding UK schools who produce an outstanding newspaper, magazine or multimedia project. Held at the beautiful Stationers Hall in London, students enjoy a range of workshops led by media industry professionals before attending a gala lunch and awards ceremony. 34 schools made the shortlist.
Students were awarded Highly Commended awards in the following categories: Editor of the Year (Prubleen Bhogal), Best Magazine, Best Overall Content and Best Sustainability Initiative.
Judges commented: “Humorous and serious at the same time, The Beacon is all things to all people at King Edward VI Handsworth: students, teachers, and parents. Pride in their school shines through the pages of this excellent magazine”
Congratulations to a phenomenal team who worked incredibly hard. In recognition of her award, Prubleen has been offered a day’s work experience at Printweek.
