Chartwells Chef Andrew Walker is on a mission to bring fun, food and education together in the kitchen. Andrew and his team visited King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy in September to talk to the pupils about the importance of heathy eating and that cooking fulfilling meals can be both simple and fun to do.
The pupils were involved in engaging talks with the chefs, learning about flavour combinations, balanced meals and easy ways to get in their five a day of fruit and vegetables. Andrew and his team also demonstrated their cooking skills and the pupils were able to get involved by helping with the preparation work - even gutting fish!
Six months ago Chef Andrew teamed up with Chef Allegra McEvedy MBE of CBeebies and Junior Masterchef to bring together a series of fun, educational cook-along videos, recipes and tips for young people to follow along with at home with their families via the Youtube channel 'The Super Yummy Kitchen'. "We at Chartwells aim to nourish every young mind and body with exceptional food and learning. We also want to go beyond our kitchen, to teach young people and families the joy of cooking great food, together with great nutrition."
The day was finished off with a Q&A session where the pupils were given the opportunity to have their burning (no pun intended!) culinary questions answered, as well as returning home with some new tricks up their sleeves.
