Turves Green Girls’ School students will be welcomed back after current lockdown restrictions are lifted to a brand-new, state-of-the-art building. Designed to transform the school and ensure the students in the area receive a first-class education for years to come, the new site includes a range of professional technology, equipment and innovative sports facilities. The £22 million rebuild offers specialist technology suites, six high specification science laboratories, a sports hall, multi-gym and large playing field/athletics track, as well as a main hall with retractable seating for performances and dedicated rooms for Art, Music and Dance. This comes as Turves Green Girls’ School gets ready to become the tenth member of the King Edward VI Academy Trust in September 2021, when the school will then be known as ‘King Edward VI Northfield School for Girls’. After receiving approval from the West Midlands Headteacher Board in October 2020, the Academy Trust and the school are working closely to complete all legal academy conversion requirements. Sharon Roberts, Chair of the King Edward VI Academy Trust comments: “We are delighted to be welcoming Turves Green Girls’ School into the King Edward VI family. The school is a perfect fit for the Academy Trust with ambitious students and passionate staff. They join us in our mission to make Birmingham the best place to be educated in the UK.” The school is looking forward to being a part of the collaborative initiatives taking place across the Academy Trust and further developing the educational offer for children in the Northfield area. Sam Ryder, Chair of the Local Governing Board says: “It is such an exciting time for Turves Green Girls’ School as we embark on our next chapter in a brand-new building, and will soon be a part of the King Edward VI Academy Trust. So much work has gone into both projects and we look forward to further nurturing our talented students and supporting the local community.”
