EDI Surveys & EDI Strategy
Following the EDI surveys conducted for staff and governors during the autumn term, the Governors & Staff EDI Committee drafted an EDI strategy and an action plan for the Foundation. Members of the Committee have been running focus groups with EDI representatives from schools to get their views and inputs to the draft strategy. It is intended that the strategy and action plan will be finalised with a view to work progressing on delivery of the action plan during the next autumn term.
As a reminder, the EDI survey identified a number of priorities as follows:
- Improve diversity in the workforce including staff, governors and senior leadership teams.
- Improve schools knowledge of diversifying the curriculum and equality conversations in the classroom
- Provide more EDI training for staff
- Help schools to embed an EDI culture
EDI Learning and Development
A number of training priorities were identified following feedback in our surveys and we are running three training sessions for staff in June, focused on a number of areas including; inclusive recruitment, embedding a culture of EDI in schools as well as teaching practice and diversifying the curriculum. These sessions will be held for staff members across the Foundation, focussing on topics specifically requested via feedback staff and governors gave in our surveys, as well as from EDI leads in schools. The sessions will be delivered by EqualiTeach and also Diverse Educators.
If any staff members become aware of any other EDI training needs in their schools, please get in touch with Ali Bretherton, Head of Organisational Development at: [email protected] who is keen to hear from you. We are seeking to coordinate training needs centrally where possible, so that all schools across the Foundation can benefit from consistent, shared good practice and learning.
Foundation Leaders in Education (FLEs)
The Foundation has appointed two Foundation Leaders in Education for EDI. They are Olivia Brechon-Smith, Assistant Head of Maths at King Edward VI Aston School, and Taahira Khan, Teacher of History and Religious Studies at King Edward VI Five Ways School. Both Olivia and Taahira are working across the Foundation to support schools with their EDI responsibilities and will be aiding in the implementation of the EDI strategy and action plan.
EDI Resources
The Committee has created a resources hub for sharing EDI resources and guidance. If you would like to find out more about how to access the resources hub please get in touch with Ali directly at: [email protected]
EDI Collaboration
The Committee will be setting up an EDI collaboration group next year that will meet termly. The purpose of this group is to provide a means for greater collaboration on all things EDI. Schools and EDI leads from across the Foundation will be invited to attend these sessions to discuss and share best practice and EDI learning.
If you would like to know more about this group or be a part of this, please contact Ali Bretherton at: [email protected].
