Green Meadow Community Information Session

Last month, the Access & Participation team, alongside Tayiba Saleem (Head of Year 7, King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys), Richard Lewis (Assistant Head, King Edward VI Five Ways School) and Charlotte Osborn (Assistant Head, King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls), visited Green Meadow Primary School to deliver an information session to parents and the wider community.

The session centred on breaking down some of the common myths and misconceptions associated with the King Edward VI Foundation. It gave parents and members of the wider community the opportunity to hear about what life is like as a King Edward VI student, some insight into the admissions policies as well as the ‘Atom Prime’ online platform, available for Pupil Premium children. Participants were able to enjoy videos created by students from King Edward VI Five Ways School and heard about the Foundation schools’ approaches to transition from Year 6 to Year 7.

A Q&A session was held, where visiting parents and community members were able to raise any particular questions they may have had with any member of the Foundation team over tea, coffee and refreshments.

This event feeds into the Access and Participation department’s wider strategy to partner with Green Meadow Primary School for the 2023/24 academic year. The department plans to run a series of participation activities and interventions over the course of the year with the school, targeting disadvantaged pupils and raising aspirations for all.

Green Meadow Primary School is located within our south cluster and as such will work with six of our Foundation schools (Five Ways, Camp Hill Boys, Camp Hill Girls, Northfield, Balaam Wood and Lordswood) on both an individual and cluster basis, for example, through aspiration and familiarisation sessions, subject-specific masterclasses, open days and a ‘Primary School Week’.

The morning was a real success, having received some positive feedback from parents and members of teaching staff from the school. We look forward to building on its success for future community information sessions in both our North and South cluster partner primary schools and beyond.
