At King Edward VI Five Ways School the students, staff and parents have been missing the regular extracurricular programme and enrichment that it brings them. The art department therefore have been encouraging the Five Ways Community to get creative by putting pen, pencil and paint to paper in order to sketch, craft and illustrate what their imaginations could conjure up under the theme of 'A Climate of Change'.
Students and staff have been uploading their images to a specific Google Classroom and their work forms part of the year long House Competition. All of the excellent entries have been accumulating house points. The initiative has been influenced by the International Big Draw Festival.
In previous years a sketchbook has been shared between staff members to encourage them to add a drawing each day and for students to hand in their sketchbooks or email in pictures. This year staff have collaborated on a shared Google Slides presentation and the students, along with their families have also shared their drawings via Google Classroom.
Jason Piggot, Subject Leader of Art comments "The changes in sharing physical sketchbooks has actually led to much more student confidence and has made it easier for us to distribute videos and staff drawings, as well as answer questions. I'll definitely be using a similar approach next year and we can also use this to try other whole school online projects".
