We are delighted to celebrate a significant achievement across the King Edward VI Foundation, with King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls, King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy and King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy all receiving the prestigious SEND Inclusion Award (SENDIA).
This nationally recognised award celebrates a school’s commitment to inclusive culture, strong SEND leadership and high-quality classroom practice, where inclusion is embedded into everyday school life and pupils feel supported, valued and heard.
At King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Girls, led by Angela Lomas (SENDCO), this success reflects months of dedicated work by staff, pupils, parents and partners. The rigorous assessment process included a full-day verification visit, showcasing inclusive practice across the school, including student-led initiatives such as Outside the Box.
We also recognise the contributions of Fiona Smith (Assistant Head and SENDCO) at King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy, and Vicki Giffin and Lucy Jensen (SENDCO team) at King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy, whose leadership has been central to this achievement.
These awards highlight a shared commitment to ensuring every student can thrive and reinforce our belief that inclusive education benefits everyone.
