King Edward VI Five Ways celebrated the opening of its new Heritage Room at a special event held on the evening of 24 June 2026, bringing together students, staff, alumni and members of the wider school community.
The Heritage Room showcases the school’s proud history, which stretches back to its founding on 16 January 1883. Designed to celebrate, preserve and share over 140 years of achievements, traditions and experiences, the space highlights key moments in the school’s journey, from its original site on Hagley Road to its move to Bartley Green in 1958, and its evolution into the inclusive, forward-looking school it is today.
The project was led by Stuart Shepherd, Alumni Officer, who brought the room together, with the centre officially opened by British political journalist and alumnus of the school, Ben Wright. The event also recognised the generosity of many Old Edwardians, who have donated artefacts from their time at the school. These items form part of the current displays, with more set to be added throughout the year as the collection grows.
The Heritage Room not only reflects the school’s academic excellence, but also its rich culture of sport, music, drama and service. It has been designed as a living space that will continue to develop over time, ensuring that the stories of past generations remain accessible and inspiring for those to come.
By connecting the past with the present, the Heritage Room stands as a lasting tribute to the people and community that have shaped King Edward VI Five Ways School for more than a century.
