Celebrating the Opening of the Centenary Building at King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls

King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls marked a significant milestone on Thursday 21 May with the official opening of its new Centenary Building.

The celebration brought together Governors, representatives from the King Edward VI Foundation, staff, students and student leaders, all united in recognising this important moment in the school’s history. Proceedings began with a warm welcome from Headteacher, Mr Goodwin, followed by reflections from Chair of Governors David Wheeldon, who spoke about the vision behind the new development and its importance for future generations.

Students played a central role in the event, not only attending but contributing to the celebratory atmosphere, including a memorable musical performance that showcased the talent within the school community. Their presence highlighted the building’s true purpose: to support and inspire young people in their learning and development.

Guests also had the opportunity to mark the occasion more informally, coming together to enjoy celebratory cake and reflect on what the new facilities will mean for the life of the school.

The opening of the Centenary Building represents a proud moment for the entire school community and underscores a continued investment in high-quality environments for teaching and learning, ensuring that students have the space and resources they need to thrive now and in the future.
